Open.Room, Neuberger’s room automation system, opens up a world of opportunities

Products

Rothenburg’s specialist in building automation, room automation and clean room technology is increasingly relying on KNX and DALI in room automation projects.

“Neuberger’s Open.Room system creates integrated solutions across multiple buildings with functions that are superior to the standard options and strategies found in our industry”, explains Jürgen Metzger, sales manager at Neuberger. In particular, the integration of room functions such as lighting, indoor climate, sun protection, room control and display brings fundamental benefits for all parties.

The Open.Room room automation system is increasingly being used with KNX and DALI bus systems as it features integrated planning and can be used across multiple buildings.

Straightforward integration of KNX devices

Neuberger is increasingly relying on the KNX interface for room automation projects. It enables straightforward integration of blind control, variable air volume controllers, valves, dew point monitors, motion detectors and room operator units. The installation of a single bus line in the room brings a high level of functionality, flexibility and also reduces the amount of cabling required and the associated fire loads. Neuberger also relies on the central intelligence of the Open.Room system. All group objects of all KNX devices are addressed to the KNX module (CM8400) in the Open.Room system. All room functions are regulated and controlled from here. This solution has many benefits. It reduces the coordination and interdependencies between buildings. At the same time, it increases functionality and comfort. It cuts the cost of installation and commissioning, as one contact person handles all room functions.

DALI for controlling lighting control equipment

In addition to the KNX module, the company from Middle Franconia is also increasingly using controllers with a DALI interface. Here, too, the benefits are obvious: With a power supply integrated into the system, the DALI module (CM8410) does not require an additional, external power supply unit to supply the DALI loads. This cuts out additional hardware costs. The Neuberger controller is also extremely powerful. It enables BACnet connection with the device profile B-BC (for fully programmable automation devices). “We are also expecting the controller to be certified in accordance with BACnet Interest Group Europe (BIG-EU) requirements shortly,” Metzger continues.

The benefits of the room automation system Open.Room with KNX
and/or DALI connection

  • Neuberger’s systems provided integrated solutions across multiple buildings
  • RoomDesigner provides flexible room automation across all axes
  • Quick and easy integration of KNX and/or DALI bus systems
  • Central intelligence brings more functional options
  • IOT – Internet of Things with the MQTT protocol
  • Selection and use of universal KNX devices such as field devices and operator units
  • Cost reduction through decreased hardware and material use
  • Optimised design reduces installation and commissioning times
  • Certified controllers made by Neuberger
  • Future-proof, flexible and powerful room automation system with spare parts guarantee and no discontinued products

Due to the modular concept, the Open.Room room automation system is compatible with EnOcean (radio) and SMI in addition to KNX and DALI bus systems. Analog and digital signals can also be connected directly to the Open.Room system. PMC_Studio is used for parameterising and programming the system. RoomDesigner is used for configuration and commissioning. Both software programs were developed in-house at Neuberger. This provides users and operators with a complete system from a single supplier, which also comfortably satisfies the requirements of building control energy efficiency class A in accordance with EN 15232.
